Welcome to the Student Course Notes Portal
You are eligible to access notes from this portal if you are:
- An Accessibility Services Student with an accommodation for a Volunteer Note Taker and have requested Letters of Accommodation to be sent to your instructors (see details below).
- An Accessibility Services Deaf or Hard of Hearing Student with an accommodation for a Note Taker or Transcriber and have registered with DHHS Coordinator, Tessa Rogowski, t.rogowski@uwinnipeg.ca.
If you need help accessing your notes, read the step-by-step instructions to notes access in .pdf version:
How to request volunteer note takers via letter of accommodation
(Not for Deaf or Hard of Hearing Students)
- Request your Letters of Accommodation from the AS Student Portal. There is also a step-by-step tutorial on how to release your Letter of Accommodations.
- When you reach the page that lists your courses, click 'Request' and use the Accommodations Checklist to make sure the box for volunteer note taking is checked off as follows:
Instructor Assistance - Help AS with Recruitment of a Volunteer Notetaker.
- This will ensure that the Letter of Accommodation includes an announcement for the instructor to make in class and to post on Nexus. If the announcement is not mentioned or posted, contact vnt@uwinnipeg.ca immediately.
- When a volunteer contacts Accessibility Services, you will receive an email from vnt@uwinnipeg.ca with specific instructions on how to access the AS Student Course Notes Portal to view, select and download class notes from the volunteer. These instructions are also in the text box below.
How to Access Class Notes from the Student Course Notes Portal
(Note: These instructions apply only if you have received an email notification from vnt@uwinnipeg.ca that a volunteer has uploaded sample notes for you to view. See above instructions on How to Request Volunteer Note Takers via Letter of Accommodation)
- Click 'Courses/Notes' above. Your courses will be listed in a table.
- Go to the Column titled 'I require a note taker'.
- Below the title it will say 'No'. Below that, click on 'Change This' and click 'Yes'. A pop-up appears asking if you are sure you require a note-taker. Click OK.
- Under the column heading 'Note Taker Availability', click 'Select a note taker'.
- If volunteers have registered, there will be a list of Note-takers with sample notes. View the notes by clicking 'Check sample notes'. If the notes are satisfactory, click 'Choose this notetaker' in the 'Action' column.
- If there is more than one note taker, you can only select one at a time. If you want to switch to a different note taker, you can change the “I require a note taker” to “No” and repeat the instructions for selecting a note taker.
- The chosen note-taker will be notified to keep uploading notes. You will be notified by email when notes have been uploaded.
Please email vnt@uwinnipeg.ca if:
- You do not see a sample note uploaded
- You do not need a note take anymore
- You aren't getting notes on a regular basis
- The notes you receive are not readable or complete
- You drop the class
